Connecting volunteers. Empowering Nonprofits. Building community.

Who We Are

We work to change lives, empower families and improve our community through volunteerism and supporting local nonprofit organizations.

We also promote volunteerism in the region and connect individuals and businesses with opportunities to serve.

We believe in growing our community by providing best-practice tools and offering educational and consulting support services to our nonprofit partners.

Why We Exist

We want to see all individuals and families in New Jersey engaged in volunteer service. We also want every local nonprofit to have the resources they need to accomplish their mission.

What We Do

Our purpose comes in three parts:

  1. Connecting volunteers with quality opportunities to serve.
  2. Empowering nonprofits by providing resources and education in best-practice volunteer management and board development.
  3. Building communities in South Jersey through service projects and volunteer initiatives.

Where We’ve Been

The Volunteer Center of Gloucester County (VCGC) was established in 1996, with support from the United Way of Gloucester County and the Gloucester County Board of Chosen Freeholders. A private, independent 501c3 non-profit organization, the Volunteer Center moved to the Gloucester County College (now Rowan College at Gloucester County) campus in 1999.

In 2013, VCGC expanded to cover six more counties, changing its name to the Volunteer Center of South Jersey (VCSJ). The Center’s Board of Directors, donors, leadership and volunteers are deeply committed to changing lives, strengthening our community and meeting the social needs of South Jersey region.

Where We’re Going

We strive to be much more than a volunteer center. As a nonprofit capacity building partner, we help nonprofits recruit, retain and recognize their volunteers — providing opportunities to network, learn and expand their capacity through program like the Service Enterprise Initiative and Volunteer Management Training Series through our affiliate partnership with Points of Light.
